Inscription back: Post Card, The room which Martha Washington occupied after the death of General Washington, because she could see from its window the tomb where the body of her husband lay. Mrs. Washington died in this room on May 22, 1802. From a Water Color by F. J. Mayfield. Mount Vernon is owned and maintained by the Mount Vernon Ladies Association of the Union, founded 1853 for the preservation of the home and tomb of Washington.
