– Background –Hans Reinerth was a German archaeologist, born in Bistritz, Austria-Hungary, on May 13, 1900, and died in Unteruhldingen on April 13, 1990. He is notorious for his role during National Socialism. Reinerth was a member of the völkisch, anti-Semitic "Kampfbund für deutsche Kultur," and joined the Nazi Party in 1931. He was the director of the Reichsbund für Deutsche Vorgeschichte from 1933 until the end of World War II, and was instrumental in the theft of "ownerless cultural property" from murdered Jews. |
