Robert Percival was an army officer and writer who made a notable journey to the tropical island of Ceylon, now known as Sri Lanka, in 1803. At that time, the island was under the colonization of Britain, the Netherlands, Malaysia, and Portugal. Percival's book about his journey was a unique account that not only described the flora and fauna of the island but also delved into the politics of the region during his time there.
