– Background –

Otto Wilhelm Thomé was a German botanist, illustrator, and educator who was born on March 22, 1840, in Cologne and died on June 26, 1925. He was awarded the Red Eagle Order 4th Class and the Commemorative Medal for the 100th Birthday of Kaiser Wilhelm I. Thomé was known for his collection of botanical illustrations, "Flora von Deutschland, Österreich und der Schweiz in Wort und Bild für Schule und Haus." Walter Emil Friedrich August Migula was a Silesian German botanist born on November 4, 1863, in Zyrowa, who died on June 23, 1938, in Eisenach. He taught at the Technical University of Karlsruhe from 1893 and at the Forestry Academy in Eisenach from 1904 to 1915. Migula published scientific papers on cryptogams and bacteria, as well as popular works on general plant biology.
